Napoleon X1V They’re coming to take me away
During the sixties a piece of Craziness hit the air waves. Napoleon X1V “There’re coming to take me away”. Many DJ’s at the time gave it a big miss. But Ken was always trying to take advantage of the so called big blokes and as the youngest DJ on the block in Sydney at 2GB he added it to his shows. Most DJ’s at the time selected their own programmes and only had to answer to the management if anything went wrong.
Over in Clarence Street they also took risks and hired American Mel Happy, alias “Mad Mel”. He was off the wall and was let out of his ‘cage’ each shift to spread madness and mayhem on the then unsuspecting listeners. He adopted this track as one of his features and it became part of his brand.
In later years Ken met Mel at 2WS and he was far from insane and one of the most even tempered radio bods going around. We’re not sure if this is the original clip and over the past two years visual effects look to have been added that are really not that effective.
However it does give younger folks of the day a sample of what their parents and grandparents enjoyed back in the sixties
